13th Wloclawek Balloon Cup – 2012

"“Mathijs de Bruijn set some interesting combination of tasks for the 13th Wloclawek Cup with pilot declared special shaped tasks over the forests around Wloclawek City. The winds remained brisk and the two morning flights (with 4-5 tasks) were over within the hour. The flying area to the south is very open making it easy to find individual launch sites. The area is good for competition flying though because of the wind speeds we missed the opportunity to have tasks set over the river, which had occurred before.

My team of my wife, Karin, son Dominic and veteran balloon pilot, John Coleman worked well and our strategies for morning flights worked well though we were caught out on both occasions in the evening when the wind veered during the launch period. Dominic navigated for me and made some good marker drops in the Minimum Distance Double Drops. We are both looking forward to returning next year when both Dominic and myself will be flying for the UK.”
